Released on July 31, “Momentum” is the second full-length release from the post-hardcore maniacs known as Close To Home. After their first release, “Never Back Down” I was excited to see what the new material would be like. However, like most bands these days, they disappointed me with a mediocre album. I am continuously searching for bands that can produce an album that holds my attention from start to finish. I want to hear new music that does not sound like anything I’ve ever heard before, and I am often let down by the new albums that I get.
Speaking of the album at hand, I have nothing negative nor positive to say about it. It certainly did not bring anything special to the table for me. Each song was very generic and I lost interest after about the third song every time I sat down to give it another chance.
Close To Home is one of those bands that I can listen to one song, like it, and then move on. They are not, however, a band that has tracks that I feel the need to continuously go back to. It makes me sad to say this because I know these guys have a huge following and they have the ability to make great songs, but I have never been one to listen to an album where each track sounds the same. It is also safe to say that I will never become one of those people.
As for the fans of this band, I’m sure you will continue to enjoy their new material. They are currently participating in the “Scream It Like You Mean It Tour” which comes to a close on Friday, so make sure to check it out if you haven’t already because with Attack Attack! and We Came As Romans in the lineup, it is sure to be a great show.
