I recently received a promo that claimed Deus Otiosus were “old school death metal” and that immediately caught my fucking attention. I see a lot of bands nowadays claiming to be that, and they turn out to be loaded down with blast beats and fucking pig squeals. God knows i’m writing this review the day after the All-Stars tour so I know all about fucking pig squeals. In all seriousness this album really is old school death metal. In a year where I have listened to some amazing death metal albums like Origin’s “Entity” my faith in the genre has been reborn. And Deus Otiosus does not fail me with “Murderer.” Yes tha album was released in 2010 but having just learned about it I just want to know why my head has been under a fucking rock.
This album is a straight up throwback to bands like Deicide, Obituary, and Morbid Angel. Hard pounding riffs that make any headbanger…well…headbang. Along with fast, blistering, solos and drumming from fucking hell create a modern death metal masterpiece. Songs like “I Have Seen Him Slay” and “Thousand Arms of the Dead” speak volumes in brutality. But my favorite thing about these songs, a long with others on the album is that I can distinguish what the vocalist, Anders Bo Rasmussen, is growling(and believe me he is fucking growling.)

One of the best death metal albums I have listened to in years. One of the best for me ever. And I will surely be listening to it for some time to come.
