Alright so according to Crazed Hits Ghost have signed a major record deal with upstart record company Seven Four Ent. owned by Tom Whalley. According to MetalSucks the deal is worth around 750,000 DOLLARS. Yes, you did read that correctly.
A few points here:
- Will Ghost sell out and make major label music? I don’t think that they will, they seem pretty dead-set on the Satan imagery and even on a major label that is one thing that you just can’t completely turn from.
- Why not pick a metal label? From what MetalSucks and other sources have said RoadRunner pursued them pretty hard. Which makes sense because they gobble up most of the popular metal bands when they become free agents and then turn them into radio bullshit. Trivium and Killswitch come to mind instantly. Metal Blade only had a distribution deal, but one would think that would have gotten them right into the mix and give them the upper hand. Who knows, I am sure we will find out more about the deal and reasoning in the coming days.
- Will the Ghost fans leave? I hate to think that they will lose fans just because they signed with a major label. It wouldn’t make much sense to me. But it happens, it happens all the damn time. Fans feel ‘betrayed’ because something they know and loved has “sold-out.” If you have ever seen Ghost live, you know that they sell out, everywhere.
