Hell or Highwater is a new hard rock side project formed by vocalist Brandon Saller, whom you may know from his other band Atreyu. “Begin Again” was released on August 9th and is their debut album. However, you would never know it by just listening to the album.
Brandon Sallers has the experience that it takes to start a band and make an incredible album from the very beginning. I have always enjoyed his vocal ability in the past and this album is no exception. He has a strong, original voice that makes the lyrics very powerful.
From the first track, ” Gimme Love” this album hits you in the face with great rhythm and strong clean vocals. The power in each song is incredible. Even the slower tracks like “Rock Waters Edge” are very strong and the emotion really shines through. Then when you get down to “Go Alone” that features M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold and the album takes an entirely new turn. The song begins with a folk style beat and then becomes heavier as the song progresses. The mix of vocals from Shadows and Saller creates a really enjoyable song that is different but still has a style that reminds me a lot of Atreyu. Each track on this album has something new and equally great to offer the listener.
This album was actually quite a surprise for me. (I can thank Justin for the great suggestion!) I didn’t expect it to contain so many elements that all blend in great together. You get a little hard rock, a little metal, and even a little folk that all comes together to make one good song after another. I’m ready to see how much attention this band receives and what they do in the future. I wish them the best! The hard rock community really needs something new and different.
Make sure to check this album out! If you are a fan of Ateyu or just a hard rock fan in general, you will not regret owning this album!
Rating: 9/10- Great vocals, great rhythm and lots of diversity…what more can you ask for from a debut album?
