Layne Staley…10 Years Later R.I.P.

Whether or not you liked the grunge movement, many people recognize Alice in Chains vocalist Layne Staley as one of the best. His gritty, yet clean voice was powerful and melodic, strong and beautiful. Whether or not he was screaming his lungs out or singing a slow, emotional song, he did it with a way nobody has since. His time was cut short thanks to a drug overdose, sadly.

Alice In Chains for me was a segway of sorts from the music I first heard link Pearl Jam and Nirvana into the harder side of grunge and then ultimately into the heavier side of metal. The power of Alice in Chains couldn’t me matched in the world of grunge and really, neither could the power. Jerry Cantrell might have been the best and most heavily influenced guitarist in the genre and the bands music and style shows it.

The question AiC fans can ask nowadays, is if Layne was still alive,

Would?

About Matthew Kuritz

Born in 1989 in a small town in South Carolina, Matthew was raised on metal. His father, a huge KISS and other classic rock/metal fan and his brother wh owas raised during he hay-day of Hair Metal and Grunge, Matthew was made to do this. I digest any and all music that comes my way; not just metal. Metal for me strikes the rebellious, angry, and energizing nerve that no other music can. Metal has the most talent, most feeling, and most power than any kind of music. I am always up for discussing anything and everything involving metal and other music.
