Music Mag Mayhem! – February (Part 1)

So I’ve recently subscribed to a boatload(seven) music magazines. Figured it might be pretty cool to go over and summarize what they have, maybe prompt some people to actually go out and buy a physical copy. Sure reading shit on here is easy, but their is something about holding the physical copy in your hands that always gets to me! So let’s get to it.

Spin – January February

Not really a magazine that caters to metal or hard rock. More like Rolling Stone than a metal mag but it’s still a decent read. In this issue they run down the top albums and songs of 2011 along with discussing the news story of the year, Occupy Wall Street. The only thing that peaked my musical interest was the article about Adele. Say shit or not, Adele is awesome no matter what kind of music you listen to. Can’t forget the article about Liturgy and american black metal.

AP – March

Another one that isn’t so much into metal as it is ‘scene music.’ I do like a few of those bands so for me the magazine is worth reading. I’m sure having Ronnie Radke on the cover is something that will instantly turn off some of our readers, well most of them. The interview is actually a good one though. The highlight for me was him discussing what Craig Mabbit apparently told him when he got out of jail. THAT of course was that if he wanted to rejoin Escape the Fate he could and Mabbit would switch to keys. Big pile of donkey shit, right? Nothing else really interested me, some shit about I See Stars and Hit The Lights might interest some.

Decibel April 2012

The best, and really only metal magazine left in America. This was a special ‘Zombie’ issue that counted down the Top 25 Zombie Metal songs of all time(no “Fight Em’ Till You Can’t? Come on!) A preview of the Maryland Deathfest(which is always good), and highlighting the best and worst moments in the festivals history. Did I mention an interview with George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher? Well I did now. Basically discussing the new album, “Torture” and of course talking about Zombies. Hell, the name is a kind-of take off from a zombie. Oh and don’t forget the Municipal Waste flexi disc!

Matthew Kuritz

About Matthew Kuritz

Born in 1989 in a small town in South Carolina, Matthew was raised on metal. His father, a huge KISS and other classic rock/metal fan and his brother wh owas raised during he hay-day of Hair Metal and Grunge, Matthew was made to do this. I digest any and all music that comes my way; not just metal. Metal for me strikes the rebellious, angry, and energizing nerve that no other music can. Metal has the most talent, most feeling, and most power than any kind of music. I am always up for discussing anything and everything involving metal and other music.
