It’s all too often these days to see uber-serious bands come along that have lost the real vibe of rock n’ roll and metal or never even had it to begin with. They lack the energy and aura that makes this music so awesome. Well, every once in a while a band like Salvación comes forth to battle for the good of rock n’ roll. I recently met drummer Carlos Denogean at a show and in describing Salvación he said, “This is the real deal man, we aren’t fucking around.” Of course anyone will tell you something along those lines about their own band, but after hearing their album Way More Unstoppable I can honestly say it wasn’t just hot air. This album completely backs up his statement.
Way More Unstoppable is seven tight tracks that get right down to business. Not one second is wasted. They reveal a party hard attitude with songs like “Epic Beer Run” and “Thou Shall Rock,” and show they’re having a good time with “Dog In Heat.” Despite their fast and loose antics, Salvación aren’t messing around musically. These guys show off ample skills and tight musicianship for the entire album. There’s plenty of fast, heavy riffing like on the grooving opener “Thou Shall Rock” and some some roaring solos like the one on “Wretch Like Me.”
Salvación bring together elements of classic rock and heavy metal with a few touches of thrash and stoner metal to create their wildly fun and exciting sound. You’ll be singing along on the very first listen to “Let Us Pray” and “Skullsplitter.” It’s impossible not to. That’s the kind of magnetic draw this band has. There really isn’t a bad song on Way More Unstoppable. Each one just grabs you and pulls you right in. You have no choice but to let loose and rock the fuck out.
My favorite songs are easily “Skullsplitter” and “Faster than Hell.” They’re just so much fun to listen to and show off how well this band harnesses their high level of energy. They’re all having a good time and they clearly want the listener to as well. Nick Sponsel’s vocals have a gritty quality with the occasional finesse of power metal that just seems to fit this music perfectly. Combined with the guitar dynamics he creates with Dan Todd and backed by the grooving basslines of Victor Marriot it’s a winning formula. Not to forget Carlos’s drumming. It really stands out in their sound and further fortifies their strong foundation. On “Dog in Heat” he’s really getting down and it sounds great.
This album is just a damn good time all around. From the raucous nature of it to the shredding guitar work and killer drumming. These guys get it. This is a necessary album in times where many bands just don’t. The songs will be echoing in your head after the first listen which means you’ll have no choice but to crank it up to eleven and give it another go. Did I mention this makes excellent driving music? Be warned though, driving and listening to Way More Unstoppable will greatly increase speeds.
