YURT

I was a tad bit perplexed as I was listening to YURT. I think I was expecting more of a doom sound and got more of a rocky-proggish sound that I honestly like. I was going to say I didn’t like the length of the songs but they somehow manage to keep my interest. The vocals come in at exactly the right times and add just a little bit of flavor the songs. Almost like a “vocal solo” if you would. I do think the songs could be shorter, but I enjoyed listening to them. The band has room to grow, but they are at least worth checking out one or two songs to get a feel. Check out “Archipelagos”

JEER

I’ve been getting into a lot more black metal lately and JEER is a band that has some potential. It’s classic black metal in the sense that it should have come out in the 90’s, which is something true KVLT fans will enjoy. Vocals, guitars, drum machine, and lyrics were done by Dreamerion and bass was done by Morfeuspuls. It really is a solid album for fans of black metal. It’s another band that has a lot of potential and one that I hope continues on. Check out “Burden of Life”

NEPHELIUM

Death metal at it’s very best right here. Heavy and fast with deep guttural growls? Yes please! You could easily mistake this for a Deicide or Obituary album back in the day.  Hailing from Toronto but originally from Dubai, they say they are one of the first death metal band to come from the middle east. If you are a fan of death metal and like fast arrangements and tempo changes with blast beats and brutal riffs then this band is for you. Check out “Coils of Entropy”

CADAVEROUS CONDITION

Another pure death metal sound , a damn good one at that. Hailing from Austria, they might be the first metal band I have heard from that area.  They definitely have the groove and ability to keep you interested in their sound. The song “Into My River” is entirely acoustic with growling vocals. Something that blew my mind at first but I have come to enjoy. Check out “Burn Brightly Alone”.BEYOND THE EPILOGUE

From Facebook: “Beyond The Epilogue is a project featuring Brian Skeel as primary songwriter, performer, lead vocalist, producer, and jack of all trades musician” That sums up the band farely well. Their sound is definitely proggy, taking the heavier side of Dream Theater and adding more synth is something I really like. The vocals, cleans and growls, are very good and well placed. I love when a band knows how to use what they have to create their sound. Check out their new EP: “BTE:EP”

Matthew Kuritz

About Matthew Kuritz

Born in 1989 in a small town in South Carolina, Matthew was raised on metal. His father, a huge KISS and other classic rock/metal fan and his brother wh owas raised during he hay-day of Hair Metal and Grunge, Matthew was made to do this. I digest any and all music that comes my way; not just metal. Metal for me strikes the rebellious, angry, and energizing nerve that no other music can. Metal has the most talent, most feeling, and most power than any kind of music. I am always up for discussing anything and everything involving metal and other music.
