The Bunny The Bear is a post-hardcore band from Buffalo, NY that formed in 2008, and they released their debut self-titled album in 2010. They recently signed with Victory Records and just released “If You Don’t Have Anything Nice To Say” on June 28th.
Until a few months ago, I didn’t even know who these guys were. After listening to their first album, I was definitely interested. They brought so many different elements into each song which made the entire album a crazy journey. Whenever I found out about the new album, I was really excited to check it out because I expected it to be even more epic than their first.
Sad to say, I only have one word for this album…disappointment.
I got a copy of the Victory Records sampler about a week ago, and I wasn’t very impressed with what I heard. However, I still had high hopes for the album overall. After listening to it, I am honestly at a loss for words. Where are the amazing guitar riffs? The crazy techno style breakdowns? The change up of beats and melodies in every song? They were obviously left behind when the last album was complete.
This new album brings forth incredibly whiny vocals, songs that are almost identical, and no real beats. I got a headache listening to the high pitched whines, and all I wanted was to hear just a little rhythm in at least one song.
Overall, this is not an album that I enjoyed, but I know these guys have talent. I have heard what they can do and it’s awesome. I just hope they let their talent shine through in stuff they do in the future.
Rating: 2.5/10- If you are a post-hardcore fan, you may want to check out both albums, if you haven’t already, just so you can see the difference between the two.
