When you think of Kreator what is the first thing that comes to mind? The kings of German Thrash Metal of course! Well the King’s do not disappoint on their new album “Phantom Antichrist”. I have listened to this album so much trying to review I just couldn’t bring myself to form an opinion that I felt would be worthy of it. Until this morning it hit: THIS ALBUM IS A MASTERPIECE. Let me put it a different way If you thought that “Hordes of Chaos” was a fantastic album like I did then your brain should melt listening to Phantom Antichrist.
From the opening track(also the title track) “Phantom Antichrist” until the last track “Until Our Paths Cross Again” this album is a thrash metal masterwork and one that should be recommended for every thrash fan old and new. Mille Petrozza sounds just as fantastic and nasty on vocals as he has throughout the bands history and the music is just as brutal. This is what thrash metal is supposed to be: Fucking fast, hard, heavy, and in your face. This is an album that I would play if somebody said “Hey man I have never heard a thrash band, play some for me.” BOOM! KREATOR!
As far as favorite songs go it’s so hard to pick on this album. “Phantom Antichrist” is one of the top ones for sure. “Your Heaven, My Hell” ranks up there as well. But when you get right down to it “Victory Will Come” is just the absolute best. There are going to be some good thrash metal albums coming out this year but I don’t know if any song can type ANYTHING on this album.
Phantom Antichrist is a thrash metal masterpiece, I can’t say that enough. Listen after listen the album simply, only gets better. I know for a fact that this is one album that I have to own on vinyl after only listening to my press release, I have to hear it in pure audiophile quality!
